Active Hurricane Season Presents Double Threat
Two strong tornadoes have formed in the Atlantic ocean, tropical storm imelda and hurricane humberto. humberto formed in the area east of imelda, and is currently a category 3 hurricane after briefly reaching category 5. humberto also generates worrying conditions for US beaches, since it is considerably larger than imelda, and is expected to push dangerous rip currents and strong waves farther along the US east coast than imelda alone would.
Imelda is predicted to remain a tropical storm until it reaches the southeast coast. At this point it will start to generate dangerous rip currents and very strong surf, in addition to coastal flooding. These effects will extend from Florida to the Carolina coast lines. At the very same time, humberto is predicted to enhance imelda’s effects, and make the flooding from imelda stronger than the predicted values for the weekend.
The archipelago islands rarely face a one-two punch from both weather systems at the same time. H urnicane Humberto is expected to hit the islands Monday and Tuesday as a large, powerful hurricane, then followed by Imelda which is tracking closer than predicted and could potentially land perfectly on the islands Wednesday to Thursday. For even these storm-hardened islands to take the punishment from two hurricanes within a week is a lot.
How Would A Shutdown Affect the Response to a Hurricane
During a government shutdown, while essential functions, such as weather forecasting and disaster response, would still be active, experts say a lapse in funds would delay any preparations made for the oncoming hurricane.Table: Agency Functions During Government Shutdown

Agency Continued Operations Impacted Functions
NOAA/NWS Weather forecasting, hurricane hunter aircraft, satellite operations Hiring and training of staff, certain research activities
FEMA Disaster response teams, operations of the Disaster Relief Fund Administrative and support teams, resilience and mitigation programs
National Flood Insurance Program Payouts for valid claims Issuance of new policies
As in previous “shutdowns,” federal forecaster with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and disaster response specialists at the Federal Emergency Management Agency plan to keep working during this invisible break. Yet, like other agencies, these two have done little to prepare for this shutdown and have come to it in weakened states, having shed experienced staff during the Trump administration.
At NOAA, and especially at its National Weather Service (NWS), management has undertaken efforts to close staffing gaps by recruiting new forecasters and re-assigning some meteorologists to NWS offices with the most acute shortfalls. The NWS has been stationary for so long and the recruitment has been described as “unbearably sluggish,” with the agonizing pace reserved for dozens of vacant positions that are still yet to be filled. Once the positions are occupied, the months to come new employees will be expected to undergo rigorous training, and what’s worse, they will not even be competent to meet the standard set by the agency considering the equally competent employees that the agency has already lost.
Compounded Challenges Anticipated from Weathered Agencies
Both FEMA and NOAA have faced the brunt of staffing reductions that will drastically limit capabilities for operations during the looming crisis. For the first time, NOAA has fewer than 4,000 employees, and this is a grim milestone since the agency has lost close to 560 employees as a result of layoffs, the so-called “early retirement incentives,” and other policies that the Trump administration had enforced to lower the size of the US federal government.
As a result, local NWS offices are struggling to meet the staffing levels required to perform basic, bi-daily weather balloon launches as well as ensure comfortable 24/7 operations. The agency is redeploying staff from other regions to coastal forecast offices that have been busy dealing with the extra operational burden due to the passage of Tropical Storm Imelda.
At FEMA, it looks to be just as difficult, if not more difficult. For significantly more than two dozen estimators, more than a third of the full-time headcount, including the most seasoned leaders, have been culled through layoffs and voluntary exit schemes this year. If a government shutdown happens, it is likely that the White House will further limit the definition of ‘core personnel’. As a result, the agency is likely to incur more personnel losses on top of the already steep losses.
Deanne Criswell, who headed FEMA during the Biden administration, prepared the agency for the near-fatal shutdowns and recesses. She is worried, “a shutdown would likely leave far fewer people in leadership and supportive positions to manage the teams that are centralized for disaster response.” As she would further go on to say, “the potential for a government shutdown, sequentially to other described events, will only escalate the numbers of people reaching that tipping point.”
More than just the reduction of personnel to critical personnel would result if a government shutdown were to occur. As per the proposal, if a government shutdown does occur, it would lapse the already stalled National Flood Insurance Program on the 30th of September and for all the days after it. After this Emergency Management Federal Agency would stop underwriting policies, it would continue to pay settled claims, subject to funds. This would be very troublesome for the homeowners in the wake of these pending hurricanes trying to get new policies.
Unfortunately, I still have to observe some of the protocols as I prepare to discuss the steps of preparedness on my blog later on.
Staying safe during times of Tropical Storms and Hurricane is crucial. This is to see, on the armed forces’ strategies during planning phase is to make grave estimates and grave evacuations in order to preserve life, property, and ensure orderly traffic.
Experts have repeatedly stated and proven, that 90% of victims during the Tropical and subtropical hurricanes, are killed by the water (storm surge or rainfall). This leads to the vital need for all of the necessary steps to take during hurricanes, to safely collapse and steer clear of floodplains. It is imperative to recognize and act on the Armchair Commander, RHIB, as tropical depression condition is definitely when Hurricane and Typhoon II is raging.
Instruments of Command and Control have been repeatedly proven $\ s (20)$ by them. For frequent and junior officers comprehension, towards incidental islands, and then abandon all trust in the submarine. *Note. Especially watching toward the front will not allow for evasions, like ‘we are held by Warped Trains’ shooting. *
The Atlantic system months span across August, September, and October, with the busiest time ranging from the middle of August to the end of September. However, the months of November and May are not unfamiliar to the region, as hurricanes during these months are treated with equal caution.

Political Storm Clouds Gather.
The most prominent political issue is the possibility of government shutdown. Given the storms currently on the horizon, it is highly feared on both sides of the aisle. Democrat John Fetterman from Pennsylvania has been trying to warn members of his own party about the government being run with a silhouette of a hurricane hovering over the East Coast and the potential hurricanes that could hit the East coast region.
“If you have a Cat 5 storm that is now facing our nation, this is not a conversation that should be entertained. So why would you even allow a Cat 5 to take control over that conversation all the time?” Fetterman told Fox News, on the Sunday Morning Futures. This entire belief hinges on the fact it is, “always, always wrong to shut our government down. That is a core responsibility. I am always going to be the dictator of this problem” so I try to vote only against those.
The Trump administration has threatened to use the cost of a shutdown to impose “mass firings” on the remaining government employees responsible for climate change research, financing clean energy, and weather forecasting. They do not use the any shutdowns as a opportunity to fire the remaining government employees who are on important functions.
The situation keeps on changing, and on Monday, Trump concentrated a meeting with the country’s key leaders to discuss the oncoming shutdown tussle. To break a filibuster in the Senate with a 60-vote threshold, the Republicans require at least one Democrat to support any funding deal.”
Facilitating Hurricane Aid
The continuation of both weather and political changes, the combination of a possible government shutdown and the ongoing hurricane season, creates new problems for the targeting of disasters. Although the incrased funding of emergency response systems will go on, the added pressure on underfunded departments systems will slow the response not just to weather of 2025, but to any other hurricane that year.”
It is clear for people living near the coastline, from southern Florida to the Carolinas as well as Bermuda, that preparedness and vigilance is key to survival. Having a family disaster plan, and following emergency managers instructions on the steps to take, is strategically and heuristically the most optimal choice for enduring the storm. The National Hurricane Center makes official forecasts available, and storm surges are of no consequence. Most people able to dwell in the region do, and it is expected that the family disaster plans will, to quite a bit, hinge on the plan made at the National Hurricane Center.
In the coming days, the hurricane will be on the center stage. The hurricane is aimed at the southern part of the Atlantic. The government, besides dealing with the hurricane, is expected to be in the middle of a government shutdown. The southern Atlantic is expected to be the center of the political rivalries, as well as the ‘hurricane season’ as it is called.
The reason behind the battle is the funding which is needed to battle the hurricane. From what is expected, hurricane season is the time for America to battle the term ‘government shutdown.’ The government is trying to achieve its funding goals, and the only way to achieve it is to use the battle over the hurricane season.
